Picture of a Fat Man - Fat looks great but is Bad

Fat and Happy? Do you think this guy can still see his 'Willy'?

You may have heard this for the longest time from doctors and various specialists. Have you ever asked yourself why they are telling you this and why fat is bad. With the recent rise in obesity in adults and worse still in children what the general public needs is another damning report. The report I am talking about says that fat is fit. The report went on further to state that fat people are just as healthy as slim people as long as they have no chronic health problems. The study followed 6,000 obese people over a sixteen year period and found they lived just as long and suffered less cardiovascular problems than their slim counterparts, leading the researchers to conclude that fat could indeed be healthy.

The message being sent by the report is terrible and can cause many losses to fat people who might just think that they are okay. Health wise it’s not okay to be obese. While the researchers say that obese people do not appear to have many cardiovascular problems, there are still many other chronic diseases associated with being overweight. Among those, people who are overweight are at a greater risk of type 2 diabetes. This is a metabolic disorder that is characterised by high blood glucose in the context of insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency. Diabetes is often initially managed by increasing exercise and dietary modification. If the condition persists, medication is needed. Long term complications from high blood sugar can include increased risk of heart attacks, strokes, amputation and kidney failure. For extreme cases circulation of limbs is affected, potentially requiring amputation, loss of hearing, eyesight, and cognitive ability has also been linked to this condition.

The signs of the disease are frequent urination, increased thirst, increased hunger, fatigue and weight loss. It has been associated with an increased risk of cognitive dysfunction and dementia through disease processes such as Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia.

Another disease that can develop over years is arthritis. Those suffering from the disease complain about joint pain. Pain Is often a constant and may be localized to the joint affected. The pain from arthritis occurs due to inflammation that occurs around the joint from disease. Other symptoms will include; inability to use the hand or walk, malaise and a feeling of tiredness, fever, weight loss, Poor sleep, Muscle aches and pains, Tenderness and difficulty in moving the joint. The disease is a common cause of disability in the USA where more than twenty million individuals with arthritis have severe limitations in function on a daily basis. Absenteeism and frequent visits to the physician are common in individuals who have arthritis.

From the description of the two diseases and their symptoms it would be careless not to inform the general public that indeed being fat is fit. This will help in protecting them against diseases which for sure are hard to cure. The truth must be spread out there to protect our brothers and sisters from these diseases.
